Manufacturing

Burrs are a special type of cutting tools. JSC SIZ “Tvintos” provides 2 types of burrs: high precision burrs and normal precision burrs.

High precision burrs are manufactured with particularly high demands to quality specifications such as durability, dimensional accuracy and low chatter.

Manufacturing of high precision burrs includes manufacturing of carbide blanks and steel shanks. An entire production cycle of powder metallurgy is carried out to get carbide burr blanks. The cycle consists of several operations. The main operations are mixture preparation, pressing, and sintering. Sizes of burr blanks and microstructure of the material they made of are controlled. Because the measurement of density and magnetic characteristics of hard metals are non-destructive tests, these tests are widely used to estimate the mechanical properties of the material.

Turning and following heat treatment are carried out to manufacture steel shanks. The quality control of the shanks consists of measurements of sizes and hardness after heat treatment.

Tested blanks and shanks are brazed to get burr blanks. Brazed blanks go to the operation of grinding shanks and the last operation of grooving. Grooving is one of the most complicated operations. It is carried out using modern CNC grinding and sharpening machines. Hard metals are hard-to-machine materials. The only type of tool used to machine cemented carbides is diamond grinding wheels.

Quality control of high precision burrs includes the control of shanks and working parts, measurement of chatter, and sample control of joint strength.

Normal precision burrs are tools used in roughing processes. They are characterized by their productivity and resistance to high mechanical stress.

Working parts of normal precision burrs are manufactured from hard metals with high strength and resilience. So they can be used under high mechanical stress without breaking.

The manufacturing technology of normal precision burrs provides grooving after pre-sintering without any sharpening of finally sintered working parts. A special technology with powder metallurgy processes is used to manufacture the carbide working parts. The first stage of the technology is grinding and mixing process used to get carbide-cobalt mixture with additives. The mixture goes to processes of pressing and pre-sintering.

The pre-sintering process is necessary to reach mechanical properties enough for grooving. The pre-sintered working parts are machined with CNC grinding and sharpening machines to get cutting edges with necessary geometry characteristics. Diamond wheels are used as a tool for grooving.

In some cases the working parts are pressed with blind holes for locating and attachment in a machine while grooving. Devices for the attachment have a collet as a counterpart. The machined working parts are sintered in vacuum furnaces at a temperature of 1380-1420oC. As a result of final sintering process finished working parts of cemented carbides are got. The sintered parts are controlled with the use of non-destructive testing methods: measurement of sizes and properties of the material - density and magnetic characteristics.

Drills are one of the most common cutting tools types. They are designed to perform following operations:
- drilling through and blind holes, including conical;
- hole chamfer removing;
- end surfaces alignement in cylindrical parts for further processing.

JSC STP "TVINTOS" specializes in solid carbide drills manufaturing with different spiral and cutting edges sharpening angles. We produce drills

 with working part diameter from 2 to 25 mm of the following types:

- cylindrical spiral;
- all types of centering;
- step;
- conical;
- holes with chamfer-making drills.

All drills are made of fine-grained hard alloy, allowing to process billets from a wide variety of materials, including:
- structural steel;
- alloy steel;
- increased hardness high-carbon steels (up to 65 HRC);
- medium strength stainless steels;
- hard-to-process stainless steels;
- various types of cast iron;
- non-ferrous alloys;
- plastics;
- wood;
- composite material.
